Friday, September 16, 2011 Grades K - 8 School Mass - The students in Grades K - 8 will attend Mass on Friday, September 30, 2010 at 8:30am in the St. Sylvester Church. The 7th grade students will minister at this Mass. Come and Celebrate with us. Early Dismissal / Teacher Faculty Meeting - The students in Grades K - 8 will have an early dismissal at 11:30am on Friday, September 24, 2010. Preschool 4 year old morning and 4 year old full day programs will dismiss at 11am. The 4 year old afternoon program will not meet on Friday, September 23, 2011. The faculty will use the afternoon for a Faculty Meeting and continue to work on the Middle States Project. 2011 Enjoy Book - St. Sylvester School is selling the 2011 Enjoy Book for $27.00. They are available right now for purchase in the school office. Call in your order or stop by the school office, make your payment and pick up your Enjoy Book. Don't forget for every Enjoy Book you sell you receive 10 points. Last Call for St. Sylvester School Emergency Cards - Please make every effort to return your School Emergency Card on Monday, September 19, 2011. If you did not receive one or misplaced it contact the school office ASAP @ 412 882 - 9900 to request another one. It is extremely important that we have this emergency information on every student on file in the school office. Thank you for your urgent consideration Online RVS GradeBook User ID and Password - A reminder to parents that your User ID and Password for the online RVS GradeBook is the same as last year. It's as easy as logging onto to the school website at www.saintsylvesterschool.org, then look for the Parent link on the left side of the St. Sylvester School home page. Click on the Parent link and look for the RVS Gradebook link. Click on this link and you will be at the RVS GradeBook logon screen. Type in your User ID and Password and you should be ready to view your child's grades. If you have any problems getting to the logon screen or problems with your User ID or Password call the school office and ask to speak with Mr. Grgurich for assistance or email Mr. Grgurich for assistance. Seton La Salle Catholic High School Open House - There will be a Junior High School Student Open House held at Seton La Salle Catholic High School on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 11:30am - 3:00pm. This will be an opportunity for parents & students in grades 6 - 8 to explore the varied academic, spiritual, growth and service opportunities offered by Seton La Salle Catholic High School. Also, the placement test for Seton La Salle Catholic High School will be administered on Saturday, November 12, 2011 beginning at 9am and ending at 12pm. First and Second Grade "Johnny Appleseed Day" Celebration - First & Second Grade students will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day on Monday, September 26, 2011. First grade students will enjoy many fun apple activities. They will make Johnny Appleseed puppets, paint apple trees, weigh apples, make a paper apple quilt, taste apples and eat other yummy apple snacks. Second Grade will bring in a variety of apples to taste and examine as well as reading stories, doing worksheets and making homemade applesauce for this occasion. Sounds like an apple delicious day! October Market Day Pick-up - All October Market Day order forms are due to the school office on Thursday, September 29, 2011. Internet orders are due on Friday, September 30, 2011 by 11pm. Pick up is scheduled for Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 4:30pm - 5:30pm in the Church Hall. As always we are in need of volunteers to help on Market Day, consider giving 1or 2 hours. If you would like to volunteer, please contact our chairperson Mary Gasiorowski at (412) 884 - 7165. Market Day order forms are attached with this week's newsletter. Diocesan Safe Environment Policy and 5 Components - A reminder to all parents who plan on volunteering for any school activities, events or the sports program for the 2011 - 2012 school year. Everyone must complete all 5 components of the Diocese of Pittsburgh Safe Environment Policy to be permitted to volunteer for any and all school related events. The following is a list of the 5 components: read and sign the Code of Pastoral Conduct booklet, fill out and send the Pennsylvania DPW Child Abuse History Clearance form to school, complete the on-line Diocese of Pittsburgh Database Application (by doing this the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check will be completed as well), read and sign the Reporting of Child abuse and the Child Protective Services Law of Pennsylvania booklet and attend a Protecting Gods Children Workshop. All 5 components must be completed and on file in the school office in order to volunteer and interact with the children of St. Sylvester School this school year. All clearance forms, paper copy of the Diocesan Database Application, the Code of Pastoral Conduct booklet and the Reporting of Child Abuse and the Child Protective Services Law of Pennsylvania booklet can be obtained in the school office. This policy is in place for the protection of both the children and adults. Your immediate attention is greatly appreciated. It's a PINK OUT - Friends and Family please join our JV and Varsity Girls' Volleyball Teams Monday, October 3, 2011 for their 2nd Annual PINK OUT - Volley For The Cure! We want your to help to "PINK OUT" the Lancer Gym. The Girls will be hosting their 2nd annual Volley for the Cure and hope to continue their efforts in raising awareness! All proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society and The Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Doors to open at 5:30 p.m. Great Volleyball Matches - Good Food - Basket Raffles - 50/50 - Try your Luck for a Buck Serving. Charitable Cartridge Recycling Fundraiser - We are participating in an educational and environmental partnership program with Charitable Cartridge Recycling which is a fundraiser designed to help raise money for our school. Don't throw away empty inkjet, laser toner and old cell phones. Send them to our school to help us earn money for school activities. For each eligible inkjet cartridge we can earn up to $3.50 and from each laser toner cartridge we can earn up to $12.00. Old cell phones are worth up to $50.00 each. Shop n' Save SEED Program - The Shop n' Save SEED Assembly Program is made possible through a unique partnership with the Carnegie Science Center and Carnegie Museum of Natural History. In order to qualify for an assembly our school is required to collect $250 per student in Shop n' Save register tapes for each participating student. Beginning on June 1, 2011 St. Sylvester School started collecting Shop n' Save register tapes to receive an assembly through the Carnegie Museum. Our goal is to collect $43,750.00 in register receipts. Start saving your register tapes and bring them to the school office and deposit them in the three drawer collection box throughout the 2011 - 2012 academic year! Student Council "Ronald McDonald House" Pop Tab Raffle - Bring in your pop tabs and help us support the Ronald McDonald House. This raffle begins on Monday, September 19, 2011 and continues through Monday, October 24, 2011. For every 10 pop tabs you bring in, you will receive one raffle ticket for the Student Council raffle. Raffle tickets will be drawn on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Good luck and thank you for your support! Student Council Inauguration - On Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 1:30pm in the St. Sylvester Church our 2011-2012 Student Council members will be inaugurated into office. During this inauguration each student council member receives their pin. Everyone is welcome to attend. There is an ice cream social to follow in the St. Sylvester Church Hall for students who received their pin and their families. We look forward to seeing you there. Thank you to the Activities Committee for providing the hospitality for this event. Giant Eagle Apples for the Students Program - The Giant Eagle Apples for the Students Program began on Saturday October 1, 2011 and continues until Saturday, March 17, 2012. Again this year, you will not need to send in receipts from Giant Eagle. All you need to do is be a registered supporter. If you registered last year, you are automatically registered for this year. If you are not a registered supporter, it's very easy to become one. Take a moment to register. You will need your Giant Eagle Advantage card handy then call 1-800-474-4777. An automated system will talk you through the process. Our school ID number is 1176. You can also register by visiting the Giant Eagle website at www.gianteagle.com/about/apples-for-students and click on the Apples for Students icon. Each time registered supporters shop at Giant Eagle using their Giant Eagle Advantage Card; they earn points for our school. These points are redeemed for great educational tools. The points are automatically credited to our school through the Giant Eagle Advantage Card. See the attached flyer to learn how to obtain additional information about the Apples for the Students program. St. Sylvester School "SNACK ATTACK" - This year we are selling "SNACK ATTACK" cards for $5.00. These cards will allow your child to buy 2 items at 10 bake sales this school year. This will eliminate the need of remembering money for each bake sale. Each homeroom teacher will hold onto the cards so that they will not get misplaced. Cards are on sale now in Mrs. Hart's classroom. Any questions email Mrs. Hart at ahart@saintsylvesterschool.org. St. Sylvester School Lunch Program - At this time we are not able to sell ala carte items (milk, water) using money from individual lunch accounts, this money will only be used for the purchase of a full lunch (lunch includes milk) at $2.35 or reduced at .40¢. If your child would like to purchase extra milk at .50¢ or water at .75¢ please send cash. Homeroom Box Tops Contest - Bring in your Box Tops for Education labels! The homeroom that submits the most Box Tops from Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 through Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 will receive a free dress down day. Please give your Box Tops to your homeroom teacher. They will be collected weekly and updates will be given as to which class is in the lead each week. This is a yearlong program that earn valuable merchandise from athletic & playground equipment to academic materials for our school . Good Luck and thank you for your support! SPIRIT WEAR - The St. Sylvester School Spirit Wear sale has been extended. Orders can be turned in no later than Monday September 19, 2011. The order form can be found on the school website or you can stop in the office. Any questions please call Dawn Ziegler at 412.352.4653. 2011 NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition - On Thursday,
September 22, 2011 the local NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick Competition
will be held at St. Sylvester School during school hours (in case of rain
there is a rain date scheduled for Thursday, September 30, 2010). All
students in Grades 3 - 8 (boys and girls) will participate throughout
the day. During the competition the participants will compete in these
age brackets 8 - 9 year old (boy), 8 - 9 year old (girl), 10 - 11 year
old (boy), 10 - 11 year old (girl), 12 - 13 year old (boy), 12 - 13 year
old (girl), 14 - 15 year old (boy), and 14 - 15 year old (girl). There
is a Release of Liability form that has to be signed by the parent/legal
guardian of each participant. Students will receive this form during their
gym class next week. Sign and return this form to Mrs. Hoffman-Brown,
or Mr. Grgurich. |
