The staff of St. Sylvester School is comprised of one principal, ten full-time lay teachers, 3 part-time lay teachers, one pre-school aide, one volunteer French teacher and one volunteer Sister of Divine Providence. All full and part-time teachers are State and Diocesan certified, and are committed to teach in a school where values and a strong academic program are top priorities. Our teachers believe it is our responsibility to give our children the best educational foundation for life…one that is built on academic quality and a well-rounded curriculum.
In the area of professional development our faculty’s goal is to fulfill the PA Act 48 educational requirements, as well as the Diocesan requirements for continuing Religious Certification. Several of our teachers hold master degrees and three have been listed in the “Who’s Who Among American Teachers”. Annually our teachers must develop a professional growth plan listing specific goals and plan of action. Teachers are encouraged to attend professional development classes/workshops throughout the year. The principal often provides substitutes to allow teachers to attend workshops held during the school day. Monthly newsletters from the principal list the workshops attended to inform the parents that we value ongoing professional development. Opportunities to share ideas with teachers in other schools motivate our teachers to implement new ideas in their classrooms.
Our teacher’s commitment to the development of our student’s hearts, minds, and souls, is unequaled. You can see it in every facet of the student-teacher relationship. Our students receive the highest level of personal attention from our teachers because of the close-knit environment, our warm and loving atmosphere and our manageable class size. We are able to know our students as unique individuals with special talents and distinct needs. These are qualities that we cherish at St. Sylvester School.
Our faculty excels in the area of professional development. We go beyond the 180 hours required by Act 48 every 5 years and we comply with the required number of Religious Education credits needed for recertification. |
